David Dunkle

david dunkleMy name is David Dunkle and I play the keyboard instruments during services at Village Christian Church.

I have many years of experience playing in churches, since about the age of 9. I have been very lucky over the years in having excellent musical training, concluding with degrees from two of America's oldest schools of music: Oberlin College and Yale University. In addition, I have done extracurricular study in Cambridge, England (choral) and in Nice, France with Jeanne-Marie Darré (piano).

Prior to coming to Village, I held Music Director positions in New London, Conn. (the seat of America's first Episcopalian Bishop) and Cleveland, Ohio, where my choir specialized in Latin polyphonic music of the Renaissance, and Gregorian chant. I have also held two directorships in New York City churches. In Ohio, my choir was recorded by the engineers for The Cleveland Orchestra radio broadcasts, and the choir also appeared in concert with members of that famous orchestra. As an organist, I have played many concerts in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, New Orleans and England.

During all these previous years, when not engaged in music, I have held "graveyard" jobs proofreading for some of Manhattan's most prestigious law firms.

Currently, I find myself practicing more of the fine "art" of cooking than the art of music-making.I find that cooking can be as gratifying as playing a piece of Bach!
