Prayer Shawl Ministry

Village Christian Church has had a prayer shawl ministry for several years. This ministry has been a blessing to many in our congregation and as far away as South Carolina and India.

About four years ago, Kathy Cox, a member of Village Christian, began hearing about prayer shawl ministries from several different places – women’s groups at church, her walking group - and she began to wonder if God was trying to get her attention. She talked to the pastor and the pastor said she would really like for Kathy to start a group of knitter/crocheters at Village Christian. Kathy discovered there were three or four other women who were interested in the project, and the rest, as they say, is history.

To date, 235 prayer shawls have been given to church members and friends of the church. Many in the congregation who do not knit or crochet have supported the ministry by gifts of yarn and money to purchase supplies. And most important, the group and the congregation pray for the ministry and the recipients of the shawls. The shawls are dedicated in our worship service before they are given to those who are in need of our love and concern. With loving hands and hearts, this group continues to share their gift with others.
